“Since there are no standard prostheses for use in such a situation, the doctors of the pediatric orthopedic department of the Clinic of Samara State Medical University and employees of the Research Institute of Bionics and Personalized Medicine decided to make an individual prosthesis of the head of the second metatarsal bone based on computed tomography images, taking into account the anatomical features of the patient,” said the head of the pediatric traumatologist -orthopedic department of Clinics of Samara State Medical University Andrey Shmelkov.

Then the specialists design and manufacture the prosthesis.
- In this case, - noted Andrey Nikolaenko, - we were engaged in the manufacture of such a model for the first time. Although previously a prosthesis of the first metatarsophalangeal joint was already made. But here is a different anatomy, different patterns. Despite this, the entire manufacturing process took no more than a week. As a result, we got a truly unique endoprosthesis, ideally suited to the patient.
The operation was successful. The girl will have to go through rehabilitation. A month later, she will be able to walk normally.
