Business is increasingly ordering research projects from the Penza university

This specialization was not chosen by chance. In Penza, close cooperation has been established between university departments and private enterprises, the latter are showing an increasing interest in the scientific developments of young scientists and their mentors. Penza State University presented three projects that are applying for an innovation certificate to participate in the selection by REC experts.

The first project is the development of human joint endoprostheses using pyrocarbon in the manufacture of the surface of the articular capsule and articular head. This material will increase the service life of the endoprosthesis design by 30 percent and reduce the frequency of revision operations. The scientific significance of the project lies in the uniqueness of the endoprosthesis friction pair, which uses a carbon material that has increased strength and is not rejected by the body. Another project, headed by Pecherskaya E.A., Doctor of Technical Sciences, Head. Department of "Information and Measuring Equipment and Metrology", - is aimed at solving the problem of biocompatibility of implants and bone tissue, which is also relevant for traumatology, orthopedics, surgery. This is the latest technology based on laser foaming of metal surfaces.

Another representative of the Penza university, Alexander Tychkov, head of the Biomedical and Cognitive Technologies laboratory at PSU, together with a team of students, developed an intelligent software control system for virtual reality with imitation of environmental influences and feedback.

- Virtual reality not only helps to relax and switch the nervous system, but also forms an impulse, the transmission of which can be lost in a person as a result of injuries or a stroke. We immerse a person with the help of a special platform and software in virtual reality pictures. His brain begins to "wander" through the proposed landscapes, immerse himself in the environment and send signals that we study with the help of ECG and EEG. This could provide additional opportunities for the rehabilitation of patients or serve as a basis for further fundamental research, says Alexander Tychkov.

The REC participants decided to send an appeal to the governors of the Samara and Penza regions with a request to assist in the creation of a dual-core center for the accelerated development, certification, production of medical equipment and products based on the Rameev and Preobrazhenka technoparks.

The attraction of additional funds for scientific developments was also discussed. By and large, today there are two main sources of funding for university science. Firstly, these are grants from the Russian Science Foundation, which are annually provided to winners for fundamental research within the framework of competitions. Secondly, economic agreements, which are, as a rule, of an applied nature and are carried out in the interests of specific enterprises.

According to the PSU press service, this year the university is implementing 30 projects within the framework of cooperation with Russian foundations, the funding attracted from them is estimated at 46 million rubles. 21 contracts were concluded with representatives of the real sector of the economy for the amount of 30 million rubles.

Financing of science at the expense of grants from the President of the Russian Federation amounted to 6 million rubles.

- We consider the rector's grants, which have recently been allocated to support the scientific interest of students, graduate students and young scientists, to be a landmark moment. Initially, the best students were encouraged with a prize of 50 thousand rubles, this year its size has grown to 60 thousand rubles, 140 thousand rubles have been allocated for scientific research of graduate students, and 300 thousand rubles for young scientists with academic degrees. We expect scientific results from grant recipients - both scientific publications and specific developments, - explained Sergei Vasin, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation at PSU.

Reputation, income from research, the number of published scientific articles allowed PSU to get into the Times Higher Education World University Rankings this year for the first time. He entered one and a half thousand of the best in the world, where the first lines are occupied by Oxford and Harvard. Among Russian universities, Moscow State University named after M.V. M. V. Lomonosov, taking 163rd place in the ranking. In total, more than 2.5 thousand applications from 104 countries of the world were submitted. 76 Russian universities made their way to the overall ranking, this is the best result ever.
