Britain's Home Secretary says migration crisis is out of control

The migration crisis in the UK is out of control, said Home Secretary Swella Braverman in an interview with The Sun.

She pointed out that more than 30,000 people arrived on the English Channel this year, ten times more than in 2018. According to her, one of the reasons was the law on modern slavery, which was adopted by former Prime Minister Theresa May.

“Now most of the people (about 80%) coming here from Albania on small boats claim to be victims of modern slavery and abusing the law,” Braverman said. The minister added that migrants with convictions for pedophilia, murder, drug trafficking remember the law when they are tried to be deported.

Braverman complained that too many low-skilled workers come to the UK, as well as students who bring their relatives, who often refuse to work. According to her, this situation is not conducive to economic growth.

“We need people with high skills, we need people with technical qualifications… What we don’t want is a constant flow of cheap foreign labor,” she said.

The head of the Interior Ministry promised to take serious measures, including amending the law on modern slavery, to reduce the flow of migrants.

In July, the Sky News channel reported that almost 13,000 migrants sailed to the UK by boat in six months.

From June, the UK began sending illegal migrants to Rwanda. According to the agreement, the country provides people with housing and training opportunities in exchange for an upfront payment of £120 million (about $157 million). There, migrants will wait for their asylum applications to be processed in the UK.
